Best Ever Pads is a thriving company dedicated to crafting high-quality, custom saddle pads designed to meet the needs of riders across all western disciplines in the equine world.

The Challenge

BestEverPads.com needed to move from WooCommerce to Shopify without losing critical catalog structure, order history, SEO equity, or the specialized product setup required for custom saddle pads. The project wasn’t a basic “export/import” migration—Best Ever Pads had a deep catalog, product variants, custom options, and content that had to remain consistent and functional across the new platform.

The biggest risks were clear:

  • Maintaining product integrity (variants, attributes, pricing, weights, and metadata)
  • Recreating complex “build your own” product behavior in Shopify
  • Ensuring orders, customers, coupons, and gift cards could be reliably migrated and synced
  • Preserving SEO value through URL mapping and redirects
  • Delivering a clean, navigable storefront with the right category structure and merchandising
The Challenge

The Objectives

  • Plan and execute a structured migration from WooCommerce to Shopify with minimal downtime
  • Implement a Shopify theme and site structure aligned to the brand and product catalog
  • Build a reliable API-based sync for products, collections, pages, blogs, orders, and customers
  • Support custom saddle pad product configuration (“customize pad”) and option logic
  • Configure essential apps and storefront systems (search, reviews, forms, store locator)
  • Protect SEO through redirect imports and collection/page alignment
  • Stabilize the store post-launch with QA, fixes, and performance cleanup
The Objectives

The Solution

TheGenieLab delivered a phased migration and rebuild approach, combining theme implementation with custom development and rigorous QA.

🧭 Planning & Migration Architecture

  • Created a release plan and project structure to control scope and deployment sequencing
  • Ran stakeholder calls to confirm requirements, data dependencies, and rollout approach
  • Validated catalog complexity early (variable products, multi-variant products, attributes)

🎨 Theme Selection & Storefront Build

  • Researched and reviewed Shopify theme options, built demos, and aligned on a final direction
  • Implemented the chosen design in the new Shopify store
  • Built navigation hierarchy and mega menu structure for deeper catalog browsing
  • Created key content areas (pages + blog structure) to match the previous site’s footprint

🔁 Data Migration & API Sync Engine

  • Synced products, collections, pages, and blog posts into Shopify with structured mapping
  • Handled variable product syncing, multi-variant edge cases, and product type normalization
  • Built scripts for shipping dimensions, product weights, and compare-at / pricing normalization
  • Implemented order syncing with support for pending/payment/cancel states and failure handling
  • Built and validated customer sync functionality, including reward points alignment
  • Added collection metadata, images, descriptions, and SEO-related fields where needed

🧩 Custom Product Configuration (“Customize Pad”)

  • Implemented and refined the “customize pad” experience in Shopify
  • Built/validated option logic for specialized products (including Custom Western Saddles options)
  • Ensured product templates and customizer UI behaved correctly across devices
  • Resolved customizer design issues and ensured the experience matched merchandising needs

🛠️ Store Systems & App Integrations

  • Installed and configured a Store Locator with dealer data
  • Integrated a reviews platform (Judge.me or Yotpo) and imported/verified review data
  • Configured Search & Discovery to improve collection filtering and onsite search behavior
  • Rebuilt core forms (Contact, Catalogue, Sponsorship) using Shopify-compatible form tooling
  • Built Affiliate Area support and validated customer/account behavior where required
  • Configured loyalty program and Gift Cards, including syncing and post-launch adjustments

🔍 SEO Preservation & Redirect Strategy

  • Imported URL redirects from WooCommerce and validated blog/collection redirect behavior
  • Resolved collection redirection issues and ensured key URLs mapped cleanly post-migration
  • Verified menu links, product templates, and internal navigation to reduce broken paths

✅ QA, Validation & Post-Launch Stabilization

  • Ran structured testing across products, collections, orders, pages, blogs, and discount logic
  • Verified coupons, gift cards, promotions, and pricing rules across collections
  • Addressed inventory and out-of-stock visibility logic to keep merchandising clean
  • Resolved post-launch issues (FAQ, menu/links, awards page changes, review issues, shipping updates)
  • Continued iterative fixes based on client feedback and final launch readiness checks
