Why detect a competitor's Shopify theme?
Seeing what theme a well-performing store uses is one of the fastest ways to get design inspiration grounded in something that's already working. It also helps when scoping a redesign — knowing whether a competitor built on a premium theme or a fully custom base changes what's realistic to replicate on your own budget and timeline.
Manual detection methods (when the tool above doesn't find anything)
Check the CDN asset paths
Search the page source for cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/ — the path segment after /t/ is Shopify's internal theme ID. It won't tell you the theme's public name, but it confirms the store is on Shopify and gives you a stable identifier if you're tracking a competitor's theme changes over time.
Look for visual signatures
Many premium themes have recognizable layout patterns — specific product-grid structures, distinctive filter/sort placements, or signature animation styles. Comparing the storefront against thumbnails in the Shopify Theme Store can narrow it down even without code access.
Use a browser extension

Limitations to know about
- Heavily customized themes may not expose their original theme name anywhere in the source, even though the underlying theme is identifiable to Shopify.
- Some stores strip or minify the JavaScript that would otherwise reveal theme details.
- A detected theme name tells you the starting template — it doesn't tell you how much custom development sits on top of it, which is often the more important factor in a store's actual performance and design.
