Well howdy my fellow internet denizens; so kind of you to tune in to our second installment of our ‘Genie X-Files’ introducing you to our techy team of awesomeness. The format is the same, but this week we are have another person up for our inquiries: developer Rob Alcock. Flashlights, intense questioning, shouting and pressure not included.
So Rob, tell us a bit about yourself to get us started.
I originally come from Manchester, but I’ve lived in West Wales since 1999 in a small village, right up until two months ago when I moved to Ebbw Vale. I started doing web development at around the age of 12, and started working professionally around 3 years ago.
When did you start at Genie?
I am recent addition to the team, having started just about two months ago. I actually wanted to run away to join the circus, but vacancies are few and far between so this was the next best thing.
What kind of projects are you working on?
I am currently working on one project for perfume in the mature ladies’ market and another for jewelry that my girlfriend would be very happy to receive. I’m using a concrete and sand mix of WordPress, WooCommerce and Magento. Both are very interesting Ecommerce stores that tell their own stories, and I like the diversity of projects that TheGenieLab gets the opportunity to work on.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Each project I’ve worked on has brought its own specific set of challenges. Working out how to meet them has been very rewarding!
What do you like to do for fun?
For fun I’m usually watching American TV shows, typically of the superhero variety. Secretly I wear mystical costumes and join in with shows; like I said it’s a secret. I’m also a big home chef, fancying myself as quite the amateur Gordon Ramsay.
If you were an Ecommerce store what would you be?
I think I’d sell various foods from other countries you can’t get around my area. For instance, in America you can get bacon flavoured mayonnaise – and I love the sound of that.
Big thanks to our Lauren Karamouzis for putting together this piece.
